26. CHRISTIAN MEDIA COVERAGE OF MODERN-DAY PROBLEMS

Place: European Centre of Communication and Culture (ECCC), Warsaw, Poland
Dates: 28 February – 9 March 2006
Participants: The course was aimed at journalists writing on such topics as politics, bioethics, terrorism, teachings of the Church, social issues.
Number of participants: 19 (Armenia, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Poland)
Working language: Russian

Course objectives:

  • Discuss and analyse the principles of the media’s coverage of controversial news issues by comparing how this is done in public, commercial and religious media

  • War, terrorism and tragedies in the media coverage, Anna Pietraszek
  • Bioethical problems in the media, Piotr Aszyk SJ, PhD
  • Religious and social initiatives in the public media, Rafał Sztejka SJ
  • Church problems shaped by the media, Zbigniew Nosowski
  • Media coverage of social problems, Jolanta Matras
  • Interreligious conflicts in the media, Tomasz Terlikowski, PhD
  • Newspapers as active elements of local communities, Andrzej Stefański
  • Christian media and new dangerous religious movements, Aleksander Posacki SJ, PhD
